Getting to Swat

Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar is the nearest airport, about 116 km in a straight line from Mingora, the main town of Swat. Arrivals usually continue by road, and the drive is best planned with daylight to spare and a check on conditions before setting out.

Swat is a broad river valley in the north of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with Mingora as its main town and the upper valley climbing towards Kalam. A separate day can be given to Malam Jabba, which is about a two-hour drive from Mingora. In winter, snow may block the last stretch.
